Could you, even in your widest dream, think of chairs which are shaped in the shape of alphabets? I guess not. But this very thought have been turned into reality by Ana Yago, a Valencia based designer. She is also known as the founder of design house Sanserif Creatius.

These alphabetically shaped chairs created by her, are all covered in fur. The purpose of creating these furry chairs was to showcase them in the Arquitécnica Gallery’s upcoming show, “My chair needs a haircut,” from September 16th to October 12th. The chairs have been made furry keeping in mind the theme of the show. But the alphabetical shape is not the only extraordinary feature of these chairs. The chairs have certain environmental values attached to them. All of these “alphabetical” chairs are made up of 100% biodegradable corrugated cardboards.
If you think these chairs were made keeping children in mind then you are wrong. Apart from having strong environmental values attached to them, the chairs also carry a message for today’s business peoples and that is to combine environmental and social responsibilities into everyday business practices. In order to strengthen that message, the chairs were all assembled in a special environment friendly center.

Cinco diseñadores y una infiltrada que sabe mucho de esto del diseño… Ariadna Roussad, colaboradora de varias publicaciones especializadas. Es sólo una muestra de lo que se podrá leer en Hiatus, la continuación de Articulado, que ya está calentando motores a falta de los últimos retoques de la diseñadora Ana Yago, alma mater del proyecto y encargada de dar forma a este compendio de opiniones y reflexiones de algunas de los principales referentes del diseño internacional.
Diseñadores en Hiatus
Hoy, como avance de lo que se verá en este nuevo libro, podemos avanzar que estará presente Jasper Morrison, epicentro de la innovación en el diseño contemporáneo junto con los hermanos Bouroullec –que ya participaron en el primer volumen de Articulado-; o Tomás Carbonell, probablemente unas de las figuras patrias con mayor proyección internacional y cuya particular visión del diseño lo ha convertido en una presencia habitual en los grandes circuitos internacionales.
Nos acompañará también en esta aventura, analistas de prestigio como Xènia Viladás o Jakob Strand, renovadores del diseño editorial como Kati Krause; y así hasta una veintena de voces que revisan desde la innovación en el diseño de automóviles o la incorporación de nuevos materiales al hábitat, hasta el futuro de una profesión heterogénea en el que se habla de innovación, medio ambiente y la necesidad del sentido común, uno de los sentidos menos comunes en estas fechas.

The buzzwords in design these days are “economic” and “ecological”. Throw in “functional”, “biodegradable” and assembly lines that “reinforce values of integration and respect” and you have a recipe for an object destined to appeal to today’s guilt-ridden, penny-pinching yet acquisitive and aesthetically minded consumer.

So it was with some eagerness that I clicked on the image attachment of an e-mail press release for the Bold cHair by Sanserif Creatius, a small design firm based in Valencia, Spain. Created entirely of biodegradable corrugated cardboard (without screws and wedges) in “special employment centres” where labourers surely whistle while they work, the chair sounded so promising.
But tell me, dear reader, what do you make of this? I’m all for a bit of insouciance with a greenwash, but would it go with the rug?

At first glance the aesthetic value of this furry alphabet seat is somewhat questionable. But when you put this fuzzy little stool in the context of Arquitécnica Gallery’s upcoming show, “My cHair needs a haircut,” where the chair will be displayed from September 16th-October 12th, one can begin to appreciate the playful and almost satirical elements of the design.

From materials to production and assembly, Ana Yago, the Valencia-based designer who started Sanserif Creatius, the studio behind the hair chair, has considered the environment every step of the way. The chair is made of 100% biodegradable corrugated cardboard and is assembled exclusively in a special employment center that reinforces ethical business practices that consider both environmental and social responsibility.

“The Bold cHair” by Sanserif Creatius (pictured) is just one of the eye-catching, furry furniture designs that’ll be on display at “My cHair Needs a Haircut Exhibition” at Arquitécnica Gallery in Valencia, Spain to be held later this year.
The chair is both functional and economic, as well as being made of 100% biodegradable corrugated cardboard. And perhaps most importantly of all, its comfortable. One wonders, however, what furry, four-legged companions (for those of us that have them) would make of the furniture: something to snuggle into or imposing on their territory?

Una mesa decorativa y funcional. Y no lo decimos nosotros, lo dice Bulebbu. La Mustafá table es un complemento perfecto para espacios sin prejuicios, lo mismo que las sillas Valentinas, un asiento con vocación de trono que dota de personalidad, y valores de concienciación medioambiental, a los espacios. Extracto: Una buena tertulia después de una comida o cena con amigos siempre es agradable, más si el lugar donde se realiza es parecido a alguno de estos. Los estilos son dispares, a pesar de que todos giren entorno a un mismo concepto, podemos observar como algunos se inspiran en oriente, otros en los comedores de antaño y otros deciden romper reglas, pero en lo que sí coinciden todos en que son diseños sorprendentes y para todos los gustos.
Una mesa inspirada en el arte árabe-andalusí es el último diseño consecuente con el medio ambiente de Sanserif Creatius. El estudio está especializado en el desarrollo de muebles y productos con valores sociales y biodegradables.

Chaise ou banc, la Bold cHair de Sanserif Creatius est en carton ondulé et 100% biodégradable. Sa consommation d’énergie et son impact sur l’environnement en général sont réduits pendant la production. Il ne nécessite d’ailleurs ni de vis, de cales etc.. From the TED archives: The legendary graphic designer Milton Glaser dives deep into a new painting inspired by Piero della Francesca. From here, he muses on what makes a convincing poster, by breaking down an idea and making it new. TED conferences.
Why you should listen to him: Milton Glaser’s work is easy to spot in a lineup — it’s simple, direct and clear, while leaping over conceptual boundaries, so that his work connects directly to the viewer like a happy virus. His best-known work may be the I [heart] N Y logo — an image so ubiquitous, it’s hard to believe there was a time when it didn’t exist.
Glaser’s other well-known work includes a cache of posters that defined the style of the ’60s and early ’70s, and numerous logos, including such instantly familiar identities as Barron’s and the Brooklyn Brewery. He is a co-founder of New York magazine and helped set that magazine’s honest and irreverent tone.
Recently he’s been exploring the space where paintings and graphic design meet. A show in 2007 celebrated his explorations of Piero della Francesca’s work. The 2009 film To Inform and Delight: The World of Milton Glaser tells the story of his celebrated career.

La idea –llamarlo Ley nos parece excesivo- de que todos estamos interconectados en un máximo de siete enlaces, llamando enlaces a personas que nos unen en cadenas de sujetos más o menos verosímiles, con cualquier persona que nos crucemos por el mundo… sólo demuestra que hay mucho amor en el mundo y que, de casualidades, uno no para sorprenderse.

Siempre nos ha gustado el trabajo de Andreu Balius, quizá por ese amor a la tipografía y el buen gusto que profesa en su uso y creación, del que compartimos, al menos, el amor, que expresamos en tres dimensiones cada vez que tenemos ocasión. Vean sino el asiento Bold, su reposapiés “o” y tantas otras cosas que han ido saliendo del laboratorio de ideas en el que se convierte Sanserif Creatius… cada vez que entra alguien del equipo por la puerta… con una de esas ideas que llegan por la noche y que amontonan dos archivadores -sólo unas pocas han visto la luz hasta el momento-.
